An underrated gem.

In Mercenaries: playground of destruction you play a mercenary deployed by a private military company in North Korea with the ultimate objective of cashing in the 100.000.000$ bounty placed on the head of the fictional dictator General Song. The game has similar mechanics to gta but it's set in a war zone filled with military vehicles and helicopters, a variety of personal weapons and air support options. What makes this game unique is that the different factions at war actually fight all the time and you will come across battles between factions just by randomly wandering around. The characters and story missions are also interesting and very flexible in terms of possible ways to accomplish the objective. All buildings are destructible,a very advanced feature for a ps2 game and one that contributes even further to the aforementioned flexibility of approach.
I would recommend this game to anyone that appreciates free roaming, chaotic action and large scale military battles without too much else, except a sense of freedom and power that stems from leveling entire towns to the ground and annihilating entire armored divisions in a flurry of explosions.
