Solid performer, if somewhat on the large size
3 persone su 3 l'hanno trovata utile I picked up my second hand copy recently and am very pleased with the lens.
Physically the lens is a considerable size and will add significant weight to the body of your camera. This is by far the biggest lens I now own.
Optically, performance is good. The focus is sharp and relatively accurate although a little noisy (audibly) for my tastes. Wide open the lens performs well and there is little noticeable (please note I am humble amateur) distortion. A number of reviews I read on the lens suggested it was a little soft at the edge of frame. I would offer that it is there, but its slight and for most average users will not cause an issue.
One thing that attracted me to this lens is the 15-30mm range. It is significantly wider than the stock 18mm etc lens that super zoom etc type lens provide, but also provides a little more flexibility than some of the other wider lens available from Tokina, Tameron, Sigma and Canon.
It fits a nice niche in my lens requirements at the moment, although as I build my glass portfolio and the novelty wears off, I may find that I dont use the wide angle offered by the lens as much as I original thought. Only time will tell on that one.
As a final comment, I would add that the lens has a fixed dimension which does not alter as you zoom. It really is a bit of a beast, but is well made and will serve anyone well looking to get a wider lens on a budget.
