Notes
Scallywag Mutiny is a project featuring members of The Orange County Fire Pipes and Drums. Formed in 1997 by pipers Marc Stone, Tommy Harris, and former drum major Shawn McDaniel, The Orange County Fire Pipes and Drums began as a traditional fire department band for the sole purpose of honoring their fallen and continuing tradition. Over time, the band grew in size and began playing for various occasions outside of the traditional realm of Highland bagpiping. It was over these next few years that the band began cultivating it's 'Scallywag' persona. When the band decided to record an album, pipe major Mark 'Lundy' Lundquist had an idea. 'I would like to record an album' says Lundy, 'but I want to go in a COMPLETELY different direction with it!' Thus, Scallywag Mutiny was born. The CD, aptly titled 'Left Full Rudder', is a combination of original tunes by pipe major Mark Lundquist and tenor drummer Cory Gallup, as well as exciting and unique arrangements of traditional Irish tunes by Lundy, Gallup, and drum sergeant Chris Stevens. 'Left Full Rudder' spans a vast musical landscape taking you on a journey through the band's traditional roots, to raucous party tunes, poignant and somber tear jerkers, and searing rock and roll and punk rock tunes. 'I want people to be PHYSICALLY uncomfortable while listening to this CD!', exclaims Lundy 'Because they'll never be able to anticipate what's coming next!' What makes this endeavor different than the many other fire department pipe band albums you may ask? For starters, over half of the music was written by members of the band. Secondly, if you've ever seen the band in a pub setting, you may have noticed their' unique' personality. Says Gallup, 'We didn't want to just record music, we wanted to capture our personality as a band or 'alter ego' on this CD.' He continues, ' This isn't your Grandfather's pipe band album and it's guaranteed to be unlike anything you've ever heard!' Fill em up again lads!
