US Navy destroyers, affectionately called 'Tin Cans', were the mainstays of US battle groups during WWII. Fletcher-class destroyers made up the largest number of these ships in wartime service. Today, only ONE of these historic ships has been preserved in its original WWII-configuration, the USS Kidd (DD-661).
