An elite organization within the G.I. Joe universe, the Crimson Guard are members of Cobra Command. As any well-versed G.I. Joe fan knows, Cobra Command is the archnemesis of G.I. Joe and the other characters aligned with him. Also known as Siegies, members of the Crimson Guard are considered the best of the best when it comes to the Cobra legions. In addition to being at the peak of physical condition, all Siegies must also hold a degree in either law or accounting. Unlike regular Cobra soldiers, members of the Crimson Guard cannot be wasted on the regular battlefield. Instead, they are reserved for only the most important and covert tasks. Espionage is considered to be the primary specialty of the Crimson Guard. The Crimson Guard includes the Fred series too. Cobra commanders can be recognized by their black chestplates and helmets in addition to other identifying features. The leaders of this prestigious group are Xamot and Tomax, two popular characters from the series. Originally released in 1985, the first version of the Hasbro G.I. Joe A Real American Hero: Crimson Guard Modern Army action figure included a stand, pistol, rifle, and backpack. This figure features articulation points common in other action figures of the time. These points include shoulders, elbows, and knees. Hasbro succeeded in that the toy action figure effectively captured the spirit of both G.I. Joe and the Crimson Guard. Possessing a serious oath of loyalty to Cobra Commander, Crimson Guard members are considered to be a few steps forward in the evolution of the Cobra Trooper. Their duty is ultimately to infiltrate the world at large, often taking jobs as doctors, lawyers, or other professionals. They earn the trust of those around them that lack the ability to understand where their true allegiance lies. There are several types of Crimson Guards, varying by rank. Those include Crimson Vipers, Regulars, Leaders, and Commanders. Sub-groups include Python Patrol, Desert Assault, Shadow Guard, and Immortals. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the ever-popular toy line, Hasbro released the 25th Anniversary collection in 2007. The size of the original figure and that of the 2007 counterpart are the same, but some new features were added to the latter. For starters, the anniversary edition of the figure boasts a swivel chest that the original did not have. Additionally, new articulation points were added, including the wrists, ankles, and even double-hinged knees. These more recent features allow for better movement and more creative play. For G.I. Joe collectors, these new articulation points allow for different poses and display possibilities. While later versions were put on the market by Hasbro, these were based more specifically on the popular film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. This made them vary somewhat from the earlier versions. Special versions of the Crimson Guard figure do exist as well. These include unique items, such as silver face masks and tan uniforms. The dimensions of the original 1985 figure was 3.75 inches tall. As with any vintage or collectible item, the value of this G.I. Joe goes up if the figure still remains in its original packaging, which is emblazoned with the logo. The recommended age range for the toy is ages 5 years and above. This item would make an ideal addition to any military-related toy collection and is also sure to inspire hours of creative play in the hands of a child.
