Three external antennae allow for advanced beamforming, which means that the router tracks the location of connected devices and actively focuses the signal toward them for gigabit speeds at long ranges. This combines with band steering, a system that distributes traffic to provide smart bandwidth management to avoid broadcast interference and congestion from other devices. That gives the user a dynamically managed system that responds to changing conditions for an optimal Wi-Fi connection.Ever attempting to recognize the value of simple systems, the DIR-880L has an easy-to-use remote management system that lets you control of the system from the comfort of a tablet or smartphone. The DIR-880L has everything needed to provide peace of mind in regard to your network security. The L2TP over IPSec VPN server support provides secure remote connections, and an advanced parental control helps keep the kids in line. You can provide an override password to allow them to work extra late on school projects while capping their online access at bedtime on most other nights. On the wireless side, WPA and WPA2 security help shield your internet from strange connections.While it features a number of systems that let you individually set rules as wanted, it is an intelligent device that sports its own dual-core processor. Using an advanced QoS system, it maintains an optimal distribution across the wireless bands to push maximum performance while also eliminating one of the biggest issues with older routers. Rather than arbitrarily prioritizing data streams, the D-Link DIR-880L selects the fastest Wi-Fi band for each connected device and prevents older devices from connecting on bands that they can not maximally use. With systems like this, D-Link not only provides premium hardware but optimizes the way in which its hardware is used to squeeze every last bit of performance out of the router.For those that are looking to have complete control over every aspect of the network, this is a DD-WRT open source router. Long gone are the days of terminal-only access, as this sports a smooth and responsive graphical interface that is easy to use right out of the box. As an open source system, users that are comfortable with modifying the firmware are readily able to customize the system. An additional benefit of the Linux-based system is the out of the box MyD-Link SharePort App, which is software that allows you to connect a USB hard drive directly to the router and use it as an internet connected storage device for personal cloud storage. For wireless devices connected to the network, you can share, stream, and easily move media around as needed. The other USB port can be used for additional storage or as a networked printer.
