This heartfelt coming-of-age story follows several high school students grappling with their sexuality in Memphis Tennessee. Though predominantly dealing with issues of sexual orientation, the film appeals to a wider audiences by painting a revealing portrait of the larger high school experience. The characters in the film all struggle with universal issues, like relating to their parents, and trying fit in while attempting to establish their own identity. The film manages to address the problem of homophobia and encourages open-mindedness without preaching. Director Morgan Jon Fox uses handheld cinematography, artistic camera angles, and inexperienced (though very convincing) actors to achieve a highly natural effect. The result is an insightful look at the experience of growing up in a society that sends mixed messages to its youth.
