First issued in 1862, the 1963 two dollar note went through a lot of changes through its production. This United States note was issued as a Coin Note, a Bank Note, and a Silver Certificate. However, in 1963, the words, ‘WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND’ were removed from this dollar bill as it could not be redeemed in silver anymore. In the same year, the motto ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ was added to this United States note. Portraying Thomas Jefferson on the obverse and his home on the reverse, this United States note was made of 75 percent cotton and 25 percent linen. Discontinued in 1966, the 1963 two dollar note was reissued ten years later. Still in print, but uncommon in use, these dollar bills have also led to an urban legend.
