Belgium developer Miracle Designs' returns to the gaming scene with a futuristic racer, Miracle Space Race for the PlayStation, scheduled for release approximately the same time as their go-kart entry, Rascal Racers. The racing theme is a continuation of the company's first and only previous release, Merlin Racing, another "kart" racer designed for the ill fated NUON DVD chipset.
Miracle Space Race, published in Europe by Midas Interactive Entertainment Ltd. and in the United States by Mud Duck Productions, features ten diverse, animal-based characters, each rated on a scale of one to five in three abilities (speed, mass, and control). Players can set race levels at easy, medium, or hard (the latter must be unlocked), utilize a vibration function if desired, and set race lengths at 3, 5, 9 or 50 laps. The six weapons and power ups that can be acquired during races include lightning, speed, tomahawk missiles, guided missiles, mines, and shields.
Featured characters include Hogan (dinosaur), Ahab (bear), Chaz (squirrel), Cadmus (dragon), Paulie (beaver), Flossie (lamb), Rocco (raccoon), Argyle (aardvark), and Chloe (lion cub). The tenth (and highest rated) of the racers is Picasso, species unknown. Futuristic tracks (Neptune, Mercury, and Solar V7) set the scene for arcade, tournament, and time trial racing modes.
