100 20th-Century Gardens and Landscapes - 9781849945295

Lovely, Interesting, inspiring
A beautifully illustrated and very interesting book. You can tell that the contributors love and care for 20th century architecture, landscapes and grounds. It makes you want to break lock-down rules and visit all those sites within reach. We will only just have to wait a bit I hope. A few small gripes. Two of the sites near me were incorrectly addressed (both as Egham, despite the sites being in Chertsey and in Thorpe). It makes you wonder about the accuracy of all that is written. A map of the 100 sites would have been a useful addition. Some of the contributions let the authors political opinions colour their observations - fascinating to them I'm sure but annoying to the rest of us. However, the book is still a wonderful and inspiring work. Buy it.
Jack Hobbs: England's Greatest Cricketer By Leo McKinstry

Very Good Read
I've previously read the excellent biographies by Leo McKinstry on the Charlton brothers and Sir Alf Ramsey. I really enjoy the style of the author and this book did not disappoint. A great insight to the life and times of Sir Jack Hobbs, This is not just a sporting story (although it is a great story, well told) this is a wonderful insight into the life of a (fairly) ordinary man (but with a great talent) making his way through the the late Victorian times to modern times.
OS Explorer 116: Lyme Regis and Bridport by Ordnance Survey

Work of Art
OS maps are wonderful works of art. The map covers quite a large area so the scale means that you have to look quite hard to see details like footpaths.
