Als der übermächtige bayerisch-katholische Statthalter Adam Graf von Herberstorff im Frankenburger Würfelspiel seiner Grausamkeit freien Lauf lässt - die der Rebellion beschuldigten Bauern dürfen als eine Art Gnadenakt jeweils zu zweit um ihr Leben würfeln, und wer verliert, wird aufgeknüpft -, formiert sich unter Fadingers Anführung ein landesweiter Aufstand.
