To compensate for the Game Boy's small screen, the playfield in this version of Mr. Do! scrolls, making the game more frustrating and less enjoyable than the arcade original. Pausing the action lets players view the entire play area, but this disrupts the flow of the game. Other variances include moving diamonds, uglier monsters, different playfield layouts, and an original, less memorable musical score. Still, basic gameplay retains much of the cherry-harvesting, monster-thwarting charm that made the coin-op classic so endearing.
