Das Nikon Nikkor 135 mm F/2.8 Objektiv ist ein klassisches mittleres Teleobjektiv für Kleinbild-Spiegelreflexkameras. Das Nikon Kameraobjektiv lässt sich ausschließlich im Zusammenhang mit dieser Art von Nikon Kameras verwenden. Das Nikon Nikkor Objektiv mit Brennweite und Blende von 135 mm F/2.8 besitzt eine sogenannte Springblende und kann nur manuell scharfgestellt werden. Der Einsatz an modernen Spiegelreflexkameras ist somit verhindert. Seine hohe Lichtstärke von 2.8 ermöglicht dem Nikon Kameraobjektiv einen großen Einsatzbereich. Der Fotograf verfügt mit ihm über ein mittleres Teleobjektiv mit fester Brennweite, welches durch eine hohe Lichtstärke, viele Möglichkeiten offenbart und so beispielsweise als Porträt-Teleobjektiv glänzt. Durch den großen Blendenbereich, kann gut mit der Tiefenschärfe gespielt werden, was ebenfalls dramatische Tier- oder Landschaftsaufnahmen ermöglicht. Durch die hohe Lichtstärke, ist dies auch bei Available Light möglich. Obwohl das Nikon Kameraobjektiv für Kleinbildkameras berechnet wurde, ist es mit circa 440 g, relativ schwer. Ein visierter Fotograf nimmt das aber gern in Kauf umso durch die sehr guten Abbildungseigenschaften des Objektivs glänzen zu können.
