Reviews
"Carpenter's text informs scholars and students of English medieval and Renaissance history. Its arguemtns are clear and well supported by the evidence, and it offers coherent explanations of the crisis of kingship in the fifteenth century. It is a welcome addition to an important series." Michael J. Galgano, History, '... this is a very important book which challenges many of the orthodoxies prevalent in late-medieval studies. By building on recent research, it brings important new ideas to a wider audience and skilfully combines an understanding of both the national and local dimensions of politics. It will doubtless set the agenda for future research for some years to come.' The Ricardian, '… this is a very important book which challenges many of the orthodoxies prevalent in late-medieval studies. It will doubtless set the agenda for future research for some years to come.' The Ricardian, "[Carpernter's] book will be read with great interest and considerable respect by students and scholars for whom the Wars of the Roses remain the single most important event in English medieval history." Cynthia J. Neville, Speculum, "This is a controversial work, perhaps in parts deliberately provocative. This is a book to make the blood of some fellow historians boil. As intended, one suspects, it will stimulate spirited reactions and hot debate. And all, no doubt, for the good." A.J. Synopsis
This is a new interpretation of English politics during the extended period beginning with the majority of Henry VI in c. 1437 up to the accession of Henry VII in 1509. The later fifteenth century in England is a somewhat baffling and apparently incoherent period which historians and history students have found consistently difficult to handle. The large-scale 'revisionism' inspired by the classic work of K. B. McFarlane led to the first real work on politics, both national and local, but has left the period in a disjointed state: much material has been unearthed, but without any real sense of direction or coherence. This book places the events of the century within a clearly delineated framework of constitutional structures, practices and expectations, in an attempt to show the meaning of the apparently frenetic and purposeless political events which occurred within that framework - and which sometimes breached it. At the same time it takes cognisance of all the work that has been done on the period, including recent and innovative work on Henry VI., The Wars of the Roses was a period of major crisis in English politics and in the lives of the English landowning classes. This book attempts to explain why the Wars occurred, and with what results, by placing them in the context of the ruling classes' expectations of kingship and governance at that time. The book draws on a large amount of detailed work written over the past twenty-five years on local and national politics, to present a coherent synthesis of what can seem a baffling and incoherent period., The Wars of the Roses were a period of major crisis in English politics and in the lives of the English landowning classes. This book attempts to explain why the Wars happened, and with what results, by placing them in the context of the ruling classes' expectations of kingship and governance at this time.

El artículo correspondía al de la descripción. Llegó quizá en un bolsa con poca protección por lo que el libro llegó con daños en la cubierta. Hablé con el vendedor y me ofreció muy amablemente un reembolso. Muy contento con el vendedor.

Item in condition described. The shipment tracking was completely opaque and shipping was slow. The seller used a third-party shipping solution provider that gave a USPS tracking number, but, USPS had no real tracking info. I was not able to see any delivery estimate until the day before it arrived. When the delivery date estimate finally materialized, it was off by two days, saying arrival would be on e.g. the 5th when it actually arrived on the 3rd.

As the title mentions awesomebooksusa, most books have been rarely awesome but the book prices have been almost generous, granted. Unbelievable services : 3 day international shipping, prompt dispatch, newly book condition, provided tracking, secure package, exactly received book, and safe deliveries. My gratitude to the seller’s thoughts of the needy buyers sending the wanted books to the new residence. Many thanks! Arabella
