Reviews
This state-of-the-art collection of high-powered critical essays secures Elizabeth Bowen's position at the forefront of twentieth-century fiction. Resisting the tendency to pigeonhole her as a modernist, postmodernist or neo-realist, the contributors show how Bowen's startling originality puts such lifeless categories into question., [ Elizabeth Bowen: Theory,Thought and Things ] will surely come to be recognized as an indispensable volume for Bowen scholars.

Synopsis
Explores Elizabeth Bowen's significant contribution to twentieth-century literary theory Provides new avenues for research in Bowen studies in ways that are concerned primarily with Bowen's perception of writing and narrative Moves away from perceptions of Bowen's writing tied to existing ideological categories, such as viewing her work through a lens of psychoanalysis, modernism, or Irish or British history and which emphasise Bowen's innovation not as central to our understanding of the changes happening in twentieth-century literature and history, but as instead a point of 'difficulty' Recognises Bowen's innovation, experimentation and her impact on her contemporaries and literary descendants From experiments in language and identity to innovations in the novel, the short story and life narratives, the contributors discuss the way in which Bowen's work straddles, informs and defies the existing definitions of modernist and postmodernist literature which dominate twentieth-century writing. The eleven chapters present new scholarship on Bowen's inventiveness and unique writing style and attachment to objects, covering topics such as queer adolescents, housekeeping, female fetishism, habit and new technologies such as the telephone., From experiments in language and identity to innovations in the novel, the short story and life narratives, the contributors discuss the way in which Bowen's work straddles, informs and defies the existing definitions of modernist and postmodernist literature which dominate twentieth-century writing., Explores Elizabeth Bowen's significant contribution to twentieth-century literary theory Provides new avenues for research in Bowen studies in ways that are concerned primarily with Bowen's perception of writing and narrativeMoves away from perceptions of Bowen's writing tied to existing ideological categories, such as viewing her work through a lens of psychoanalysis, modernism, or Irish or British history and which emphasise Bowen's innovation not as central to our understanding of the changes happening in twentieth-century literature and history, but as instead a point of 'difficulty'Recognises Bowen's innovation, experimentation and her impact on her contemporaries and literary descendants From experiments in language and identity to innovations in the novel, the short story and life narratives, the contributors discuss the way in which Bowen's work straddles, informs and defies the existing definitions of modernist and postmodernist literature which dominate twentieth-century writing. Book came packaged well to avoid damage, in great condition. Not sure if the seller delayed shipping or if usps didn’t update the shipping, which is highly likely. Still received and we are happy with our purchase. I had trouble looking up tracking due to the company they used but seller found usps tracking and sent that over quickly. Sellers communication was excellent. Would buy from again. Item as described.

I don't give negatives; However, description was not correct; No price guide was included in this book.As you will see in book pic shown; title states price guide included, no price guide inside. Communication poor, description, no communication price guide missing from this book. Shipping time was weeks before it was even shipped. Blamed the shipping on warehouse. You own & operate a business; your warehouse is not up to standards you change who you do business with. It's your responsibility.

Item arrived as described and adequately packaged. Ridiculously long shipping time. Seller posts incorrect tracking number and lists the item as shipped. Contacted seller for correct tracking, received a new tracking number with the warning that the number won’t be “live” until the item is shipped. Will you get your item? Yeah, probably. Count on it being delivered 2-3 weeks longer than expected.
