Synopsis
"Joan Mellen tells a brilliantly researched, meticulously supported, and compulsively readable tale that everyone concerned with how America operates should know." --Samuel R. Delany, author of Dhalgren and Through the Valley of the Nest of Spiders The Great Game in Cuba uses the backdrop of the Cuban Revolution to examine the CIA's inner workings during the fifties and sixties. Detailing the agency's lies and deceits, Mellen paints a vivid behind-the-scenes picture of the CIA in Cuba after the Castro revolution: what it wanted and the lengths it was willing to go to paralyze the opposition to Fidel Castro. The game begins with Robert J. Kleberg, Jr., proprietor of the legendary King Ranch, one of the largest ranches in the world. Kleberg's messianic ambitions bring him to Cuba, where he establishes a satellite ranch managed by his right-hand man, the James Bond-type character Michael J. P. Malone, who secretly reported to both the FBI and to at least five CIA handlers. From there, the plot thickens as an array of Cubans share never-before-revealed information regarding the agency's activities in Cuba and its attempts to unseat Castro and install a CIA-friendly figurehead in his place. The mysterious disappearance of Camilo Cienfuegos, a major figure in Castro's government, is told here for the first time. The agency's shady dealings with a major US publication are uncovered. A testament to the sheer volume of previously classified and untold information, The Great Game in Cuba is a story the world needs to hear. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in history--books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home., "Joan Mellen tells a brilliantly researched, meticulously supported, and compulsively readable tale that everyone concerned with how America operates should know." --Samuel R. I ordered this book at the same time from the same seller as its companion volume so comments are the same: item arrived in great shape in great packaging - just later than expected. I did contact the seller about the delay and received a very fast reply that more than satisfied me. Book arrived today. These things happen and I am okay with waiting a bit to be able to get books in excellent shape at amazing prices, especially if I get such a fast answer to inquiries. Thanks for offering!

Ordered 2 books on Automotive Engine Repair & Rebuilding, was sent "Street Railways and the growth of Los Angeles." Seller was very understanding and sent full refund, said to keep book or dispose of it, and that original books I ordered were no longer available. A search of their items for sale showed exact same picture of the books I ordered in a current listing. Based on this experience and that of others (read their feedback), did not try to order the new listing, just looked elsewhere.
