After he's outed at his Midwestern precinct, gay cop John (Jonathan Wade Drahos) heads to Los Angeles to stay with his cousin Tad (Daniel Kucan), a documentary filmmaker chronicling the local gay scene. Naďve and closeted for a little too long, John only needs one little sniff and he's totally sucked into the world of "circuit" parties, drug-fueled gay raves full of steamy sex, thumping disco, steroid-amped bodies, and soap opera-style interpersonal drama. Soon his life is spiraling out of control and it's time to learn some valuable lessons.Ex-Playgirl centerfold Dirk Shafer directs CIRCUIT from a script he wrote with producer Gregory Hinton. There's lots of drug use, vanity, angst, groping, and softcore sex (bed sheets and shadows mask total full frontal nudity). Kiersten Warren adds some estrogen and humor as John's college pal who has also come to L.A. to pursue her career as a stand-up comic. Jim J. Bullock (TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT) appears as a drag queen, William Katz and Nancy Allen are married party promoters caught up in a scam involving AIDS and life insurance. Many of the scenes were filmed at actual circuit parties (including the notorious "White Party"), with the attendees acting as extras.
