In this sequel to Uncharted Waters, players will journey back to the Age of Exploration to find fame and fortune on the high seas. The game begins in the year 1522 with your choice of six characters, each with his or her unique story. While the goal will change depending on whom you select, the objectives must be met by January 1554 or the game is over. Other ways to suffer defeat include losing your flagship, losing your crew by running out of provisions, and being defeated in a battle or duel.
One of the characters you'll be able to select is Joao Franco, son of Princess Christiana and Duke Leo Franco, who seeks to find the mysterious city of Atlantis and achieve glory for his native land of Portugal. Or you can play as Spaniard Catalina Erantzo, a female pirate who vows to exact her revenge on the Portuguese responsible for the loss of her brother and fiancée. Other personalities include British Privateer Otto Baynes, who has been commissioned by King Henry VIII to defeat the Spanish Navy, and Dutch geographer Ernst Von Bohr, who plans on mapping the entire world!
The remaining two characters are Pietro Conti and Ali Vezas. Conti is an Italian adventurer who decides to travel the globe in search of treasure and excitement, while Vezas is a Turkish merchant looking to overcome his childhood poverty by amassing a fortune. New Horizons lets adventurers build their funds through trading, plundering or discovering treasure as they travel to over 130 ports in search of their destiny. Over 180 different treasures await your character, and you have the potential to build a fleet with up to 25 historically accurate ships.
After outfitting your fleet with a competent crew and the appropriate provisions, set sail on the open seas and plot your course for adventure using an overhead map. Stop in various ports to store your excess funds in a bank (or borrow money at 10% interest), play a game of blackjack, visit a fortune teller, talk to the locals in the streets, or visit a guild to undertake a secret mission or two. Battery backup will save one game in progress, so you don't have to worry about losing your place in history. Seek your fame in trade, piracy or adventure in order to reach your goal!
