Ever wish you could drive a remote-controlled car through a museum or toy store? Well now you can with Acclaim's Re-Volt. Play against the computer or on a network or the internet against your friends in one of six environments.
Start by selecting your game mode. Do you want a fun, Arcade-style game or do you want realistic physics? Next, select from a single race of 1 to 20 laps, a time trial where you try to beat the challenge time, championship mode where you race on a series of tracks, practice, and the stunt arena where you get to show off your skills and try to find the 20 hidden stars so you can unlock one of the many secrets in this game.
There are 28 cars to choose from, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, although only the rookie cars are available at first. You must unlock the others by winning cups in championship mode and completing various tasks.
Once you have your car selected, you can choose an environment to race in. Check out a toy store, museum, supermarket or botanical garden after closing, race around the neighborhood, or wander around a ghost town. While each area has a track, you can go off it and explore your surroundings. You may find a way to shave time off the race or you may find disaster.
While you're racing you can pick up a variety of power-ups to help you knock the other cars out of contention. There are fireworks to shoot at them, oil slicks to leave behind, turbo batteries to increase your speed, and secret stars which unlock more hidden mysteries. You might even find some reversed or mirrored tracks.
Not only can you race, but you can also play battle tag on some of the tracks against your friends over a LAN or the internet. In this game, you get a clock with two minutes on it. You and your competitors drive around the arena looking for a hidden star. Whoever finds it becomes "it" and their clock starts to count down. If another car touches them they become "it" and their clock counts down. The winner is the one who gets their clock to zero first, but the game continues until there's only one car, who is the loser.
As you play you can change your view of the action to one of three cameras and watch instant replays of the best moments.
