Product Information
Collective Identity, Oppression, and the Right to Self-Ascription argues that groups have an irreducibly collective right to determine the meaning of their shared group identity, and that such a right is especially important for historically oppressed groups. The author specifies this right by way of a modified discourse ethic, demonstrating that it can provide the foundation for a conception of identity politics that avoids many of its usual pitfalls. The focus throughout is on racial identity, which provides a test case for the theory. That is, it investigates what it would mean for racial identities to be self-ascribed rather than imposed, establishing the possible role racial identity might play in a just society. The book thus makes a unique contribution to both the field of critical theory, which has been woefully silent on issues of race, and to race theory, which often either presumes that a just society would be a raceless society, or focuses primarily on understanding existing racial inequalities, in the manner typical of so-called non-ideal theory.

- -***o (129)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatoExcellent, as always with books-etc. Exactly as described, good packaging in sturdy cardboard, which is very important to me. I don't like flimsy paper/polythene envelopes. Perfect condition book at a great price. It usually takes about a week to receive an item, but with free postage so what?! There's a reason I keep coming back to them - they are a top seller. Thank you.
- o***n (2847)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatoAn excellent book at a great price. It was my first purchase from this seller and i was expecting a service similar to others on eBay. However it took a long time to be despatched and to reach me. The original order was placed on 6 June. It was not despatched until 11 June and finally it arrived 14 June. I may not use this seller in the future if i want an item in a few days but i cannot fault them on the quality of the item - as described - so ultimately i am happy and have learned a lesson,Shiva's Hologram - 9781803413341 (#355083215954)
- f***f (424)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoVery reasonable price for an impressive hardcover volume, in new condition, which is getting fairly scarce. Packaged very securely, posted quickly and arrived in perfect condition. Fast, friendly and helpful communication as well. (The first copy I ordered got 'lost' at the Global Shipping Centre - even with a tracking number. I was sent a full refund, without any questions - and used that to order this copy, which arrived without any hassles). All good!
