Reviews
Witty, incisive, and rigorously argued, this book offers a genuinely fresh perspective on the work of Angela Carter by placing it in the context of European Gothic writing by authors such as de Sade, Baudelaire, J.-K. Huysman and those like Poe who, while not European, were heavily influenced by that tradition. Munford skilfully uses images and motifs from Carter's own work (such as dust, chess, the thorny hedge surrounding the castle of Sleeping Beauty) as points of return and to inflect her argument and these lend her own book a beautiful and elegant coherence., Munford's attention to detail in her dissection of these works and discussion of how Carter's textual practice reveals the mechanics of European Gothic fantasies and allusions is admirable and makes for a fascinating read. Her inclusion within the monograph shortlist for the Allan Lloyd Smith prize is well-deserved., Donna Mitchell, The Gothic Imagination, University of Stirling, 2 July 2015

Synopsis
Decadent daughters and monstrous mothers interrogates the vexed question of Angela Carter's feminist politics through the dusty lens of European Gothic. It illuminates her ambivalent relation to some of her most contentious European literary forebears, reveals her rich knowledge of French literature and offers fresh insights into her literary practices afforded by newly available archival material. This book analyses Carter's textual engagements with a dirty lineage of European Gothic that can be mapped from the Marquis de Sade's obsession with desecration and defilement, through Baudelaire's perverse decompositions of the muse and decadent imaginings of infernal femininity, to surrealism's violent dreams of abjection. It argues that Carter's most troublesome engagements with her European Gothic forefathers are unexpectedly those which are most vital to a consideration of her feminist politics. Decadent daughters and monstrous mothers will be of interest to researchers and students working on contemporary women's writing, the Gothic and comparative literature., Decadent daughters and monstrous mothers interrogates Angela Carter's feminist politics through the lens of European Gothic. El artículo correspondía al de la descripción. Llegó quizá en un bolsa con poca protección por lo que el libro llegó con daños en la cubierta. Hablé con el vendedor y me ofreció muy amablemente un reembolso. Muy contento con el vendedor.

Item in condition described. The shipment tracking was completely opaque and shipping was slow. The seller used a third-party shipping solution provider that gave a USPS tracking number, but, USPS had no real tracking info. I was not able to see any delivery estimate until the day before it arrived. When the delivery date estimate finally materialized, it was off by two days, saying arrival would be on e.g. the 5th when it actually arrived on the 3rd.

As the title mentions awesomebooksusa, most books have been rarely awesome but the book prices have been almost generous, granted. Unbelievable services : 3 day international shipping, prompt dispatch, newly book condition, provided tracking, secure package, exactly received book, and safe deliveries. My gratitude to the seller’s thoughts of the needy buyers sending the wanted books to the new residence. Many thanks! Arabella
