This epic-length classical release finds celebrated musicologist-cum-performer Tom Beghin playing Franz Haydn's complete sonatas, and the Klavierstucke, with an unprecedented approach. Beghin and associates designed seven "historical" keyboards that were played in Haydn's time, and created nine "virtual" rooms, mirroring the rooms in which Haydn would have played his music. Then, with the added involvement of producer Martha de Francisco and recording engineer Wieslaw Woszczyk, Beghin plays each piece in an "Immersion Laboratory," surrounded by 24 loudspeakers. The music is instantly captured, mixed with reverberation responses unique to the historical rooms in question, and piped back through the speakers, so that Beghin can engage the various rooms. This, together with the period instruments, enables a closer approximation of how the music sounded to the composer himself than anything previously done.
