Synopsis
During the past ten years, political debates, legal disputes, and rising violence associated with the presence of Haitian migrants have flared up throughout the Caribbean basin in such places as Guadeloupe, the Dominican Republic, French Guiana, the Bahamas, and Jamaica. The contributors to this volume explore the common thread of prejudice against the Haitian diaspora as well as its potential role in the construction of national narratives from a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective. These essays, written by historians, anthropologists, sociologists, and Francophone studies scholars, examine how Haitians interact as an immigrant group with other parts of the Caribbean as well as how they are perceived and treated, particularly in terms of ethnicity and race, in their migration experience in the broader Caribbean. By discussing the prevalence of anti-Haitianism throughout the region alongside the challenges Haitians face as immigrants, this volume completes the global view of the Haitian diaspora saga., Explores the common thread of prejudice against the Haitian diaspora as well as its potential role in the construction of national narratives from a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective. This title features the essays that examine how Haitians interact as an immigrant group with other parts of the Caribbean.

The book was listed as an instructor’s review copy containing the same text as the student version. This item was listed “Like New” and came exactly as advertised. The seller, solr_books, packaged it nicely in a bubble envelope to prevent damage during transport. I was very happy with this purchase. I had paid very close to the same for a used student version that was so marked up and highlighted that I could not use it. Great Seller! I would definitely purchase again through them.

Shipped with tracking - excellent! Listing description indicated there was an inspection of this particular copy - also very much appreciated. Only quibble is the un-padded thin-plastic shipping bag (which showed signs of shipping damage - tears and scrapes). But the book itself arrived in perfect condition, WITH the dust jacket. So, all good! Would buy from this seller again. Recommended.

Book exactly as described. This matters to me because I am very sensitive to mold or other contaminants, especially on paper. Clean copy. Clear expectations regarding shipping time. Only less-than-perfect element is book was shipped in a plastic envelope without any stiff cardboard or other protection, causing some corner bending and a little on the cover. Nothing major, and I am very happy with the book. Thanks!
