Synopsis
Following the success of the Fashion Magazines edited by Martin Parr, Bruce Gilden and Alec Soth, Magnum Photos now entrusts the creation of the fourth edition to the acclaimed photographer Lise Sarfati. Sarfati is the winner of numerous awards, including the Prix Niépce and the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography (New York). Acta Est was her first monograph, published in 2000. After the death of Marguerite Duras in 1996, Sarfati photographed the writers apartment and her house in Neauphle-le-Ch'teau. Her pictures constitute a sort of inventory of intimacy taken from the places where Duras lived and worked. In 2003 Sarfati went to the United States and created a series with young characters. This body of work, The New Life (La Vie Nouvelle), published by Twin Palms in 2005, is designed to be viewed sequentially, as episodes in a open-ended drama in which each character represents material for a new subplot following its own surprising path. The series The New Life has been exhibited in major museums and galleries. In 2004 Domus Artium in Salamanca, Spain, and the Nicolaj Centre of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen, Denmark, showed a retrospective of her work., This edition of Fashion Magazine is devoted solely to the work of French photographer Lise Sarfati. In her portraiture, Sarfati dramatizes the intensities of fashionably clad adolescence in the insolently sensual creatures she encounters on the roads of America. Couching their lightly worn street elegance in moody sobriety, Sarfati presses pause on the activities in which her subjects are engaged and extracts their quintessential sensuality, to produce a type of photography that partakes of both fashion and portraiture idioms without quite belonging to either. Redolent in this respect of Alain Resnais' Last Year at Marienbad , in which the camera deliberately and continually "overgrooms" the emotional drama, Sarfati's work is likewise utterly seductive and compelling. Lise Sarfati obtained a master's degree in Russian studies from the Sorbonne in Paris, where she was the official photographer of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. She moved to Russia in 1989 and photographed there for 10 years. She has received the Prix Niépce in Paris and the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in New York for her work and is a member of Magnum Photos. In recent years she has been living and working in the United States. Sarfati is represented by Yossi Milo Gallery in New York, Rose Gallery in Los Angeles and Magnum Gallery in Paris., This edition of Fashion Magazine is devoted solely to the work of French photographer Lise Sarfati. One of the best shopping experiences that I've had on ebay: thoughtful speedy communication, ultra fast shipping with careful packaging, and great price. Item came as described. Regarding the price of the CD- as I write this another seller is asking over $200 for it. Zuber's price was $35.00. How's that? I know these people have some negative reviews, but I can tell that they strive for improvement and better customer service. Highly recommended seller. Thanks Zuber!

A new copy of a rare out-of-print CD was packed in a box mailer and was quickly shipped. I can't remember the last time any merchant packed a CD in a box--usually they throw it in an envelope and the CD or case arrive damaged--so this seller rates the BEST score possible! The seller sent a message telling me that the CD was shipped and gave instructions in case there were any problems (there were none). Great experience...Gret Seller!!!

Great seller; seller shipped the book SUPER FAST, FREE and with tracking number/information. The carrier used by seller was great, made the delivery in the wee hours of the morning and notified me immediately. Also, the book came in water proof bag, which is greatly appreciated since it was damp outside given the early delivery. I am so pleased with seller's description of this book, very accurate. Great communication too; rate seller 10++++++
