Reviews
"Lark Jewelry & Beading has added another magnificent gallery book to their line up: 500 Silver Jewelry Designs: The Powerful Allure of a Precious Metal . Talya Baharal juried this gallery book and has selected a plethora of beautiful things from 260 international art jewelers. From shiny and polished to oxidized, blackened silver, this book encompasses the versatility of this metal and the many forms that the talented hands of artists can coax from it. From wire work and lacy, delicate fabrications to ornate and sculptural pieces, this book of eye candy has something for every aesthetic. This is a collection that is sure to inspire and hold you enthralled with its silvery beauty." - CraftGossip "The new book 500 Silver Jewelry Designs will appeal to two different audiences: jewelry collectors and jewelry designers. For collectors, the book offers a look at a wide range of international designers. This book has been carefully put together so that the designs on facing pages somehow relate to or complement one another in some (sometimes subtle) way. Even though the jewelry is created by different designers, the designs may share a similar shape, technique, color, or motif. It's fascinating to study the designs in pairs: What makes them similar? What makes them unique? Looking at two pieces that both use free-form rings or that are both oxidized, for example, helps you appreciate the huge range of creative possibilities. I loved flipping through the book and just noting all the techniques: forged, oxidized, pierced, cast, formed, fabricated, soldered, annealed, electroformed, chased, painted, crocheted .... You'll enjoy this book if you like coffee-table books that are mostly large photos with very little text; you want a global view of modern silver jewelry; you enjoy looking at photos of jewelry either for design inspiration or as part of your rich fantasy life; you're curious about all the different ways that silver can be used in jewelry; (or) you like to have a huge, portable collection of gorgeous photos to look at." - Michelle Mach "This book ... is like walking into a beautifully curated museum show and looking at piece after piece after piece or amazing silver jewelry. You read the artist's name, the name of the piece, the date, and the materials and techniques used on cards mounted on the wall or in the case. And you attempt to soak it all in. There are many pieces where the silver looks like silver. There are just as many others where it does not. Where it looks like concrete, ashes, sand, charcoal and other materials. This is the type of book that makes me think about boundaries and why sometimes I set them where I do. This book shows you that there are people who create without fearfulness about how it will be accepted, what people will think. Or if they had any doubts or fears, they bravely created anyway. And so, if your artistic spirit would be enriched by walking through a beautiful and bold show of 500 silver jewelry designs, this book brings it to your home." - Charlene Sevier, "The new book 500 Silver Jewelry Designs will appeal to two different audiences: jewelry collectors and jewelry designers. Edgy, innovative, and redefined describe the work contained within these 400-plus pages. The photographs are stunning, as you would expect from a book in Lark's 500 Series. The book itself is a work of art and one I would like to have in my collection." - Bead&Button "Lark Jewelry & Beading has added another magnificent gallery book to their line up. Item arrived in a timely manner & as described in the listing. Interesting jewelry designs; too bad contemporary designs think thick fur pin clasps are practical for brooches. Oh those young kids-do they realize how destructive their jewelry finishes are to fabrics (and skin)? How does the wearer keep the pieces clean? Some Asian designers' pieces are violent & hostile. Most pieces are mini-sculptures, impractical to wear. Would buy from this seller again!
