Sid Meier's iconic strategy series Civilization turns its eye to the cosmos and for the first time lets gamers explore and colonize alien planets in Beyond Earth. Set in a futuristic version of Earth where spectacular technology is offset by the complete collapse of society, Beyond Earth sends players into deep space to ensure humanity's survival. To accomplish this lofty goal, gamers must explore strange planets, research important new technologies, and amass powerful armies and satellite systems, either in single-player mode or with up to seven friends in multiplayer action.
When leaving Earth, players choose from eight different expedition sponsors, each with a unique leader and specific gameplay bonuses, and then customize their spacecraft, cargo, and passengers to determine the starting conditions. Alien worlds provide challenges both familiar and new to the series, from building outposts and establishing trade routes, to uncovering ancient alien technology and taming strange new forms of life. Technological advancement occurs in a nonlinear fashion along the Harmony, Supremacy, and Purity affinities, and gamers can unlock upgrades as they advance. Multiplayer fans can join their friends for turn-based competition, and Beyond Earth also supports mods for a further customized experience.
