This fast-paced drama stars Raquel Welch as the "Bomber" of the title. But the Kansas City Bomber (or K.C. as she's known) isn't as sinister as she sounds, in fact she's a pro-skater who just about manages to make a living from the sport. But raising two kids as a single mother is no easy task, and the film oscillates between some incredible action in the rink, to a hard luck tale involving K.C. and her family. Life on the road for the skating team is portrayed as a bleak, endless procession of rest stops and middle-age angst, with all the women caught up in various worries. To make matters worse, their corrupt manager has designs on K.C., making the other girls envious of her artificially elevated position in the team. A gritty portrait of life behind the scenes in what was a fairly major sport in the 1970s, KANSAS CITY BOMBER is a film unafraid to flinch from the truth behind the success story.
