Doolittle Raid in 1/350 scale
The Trumpeter 1/350 North American B-25 Mitchell is the only game in town for this aircraft in this scale so no comparison with other is possible. The box contains small plastic parts (be careful with children) able to reproduce 10 aircraft.
The mould is good and gives the feeling of the B-25B Mitchell shape. Assembly is simple for the airframe a little bit more difficult for transparent parts and accessories because of their little dimentions. The engraved panel lines are too heavy for the scale so it would be better leave a plain surface ad reproduce it with graphic tecniques. Because of the scale interiors are totally absent like the machine gun's barrels and other little particulars and should be reproduced from scratch.
If you think is a good idea it is possible to buy a photoetched sheet devoted to upgrade american WW2 aircrafts of this scale (propellers and other little details are normally included in these sheets).
Strange things of this box:
1) grey plastic is used to reprouduce the dorsal and tail turret instead of trasparent. Two more transparent parts would be appreciated with no real differences in the mould/box final costs;
2) these models, 10 for every box, are eventually devoted to represent the Doolittle Raid's aircrafts of april 18, 1942. In the raid were used 16 airplanes so, if you have the Trumpeter 1/350 CV-8 Hornet model wich contains two B-25 only, you need another of this boxes to complete the Bombardment Group. Other options, like a terrestrial flight line, are of course possible but they are residual.

Beautiful Shigeo Koike's aircraft paintings
This is the first of four books serie of Shigeo Koike's stunning aircraft paintings. For me one of the best, if not the best, artists of this kind. Worth the effort.

A good model kit for experienced modellers
Like the title say an overall good kit but, be careful: this special version is devoted to experienced modellers.
The box contains, as extras, photoetched (antennas) and turned metal (barrels) parts.
The kit itself is good but wiht less details than should be for a modern kit. In fact the original mould dates 1995, and reflect Hasegawa's way of detailing in that age (instruments as decals, no seat belts ecc. - a photo etched/resin upgrade, if avaliable, should be recommended for a very well final result). So we have sharp and subtle engraved panel lines and simplified cockpit and wheel bays interior. The bomb bay is simplified too but for this version is necessary keep the doors closed, so it isn't important.
The engine nacelles, 8 parts each, are probably the most difficult parts to assemble and the engines are moulded in one piece. I prefer the radial engines complete with their cylinder stars but in this case, inside their nacelles, they're are enough.
Be careful to the ejector pin marks where they will result visible (for ex the main landing gear struts) at the end of building.
Parts connections is generally good and the lines of this aircraft are fairy accurate.
Generally speaking the simple model is for modellers with good capabilities but ...
1) ... the versions with photoetched parts (for ex night fighter) need a good skill and ...
2) ... this special version need an extra good experience to install the metal barrels in the right way.
This box is normally a bit overpriced (not all the others), so lack of details and price justify four stars of judgement.
The bibliograpy in english about this aircraft is sparse and hard to find, better with the japanese one.
In the end the kit is a more modern alternative to the 1972 moulded Revell P1Y and a better choiche for realizing a 1/72 model of this aircraft.
