Emeril Lagasse Airfryer System 3.5 qt No-Oil Home Chef Healthy Cook Deep Fryer
08 mar 2016
SLOW to cook. Thawing Required. Teflon Flakes Off. Food Sticks! Only Pre-Breaded Foods With Oily Breading Cook Decently
I bought this recently at my local Big-Box Club (you can guess). Usually the Emeril name means the product has been vetted and has a medium-or-higher standard. But not with this fryer. I bought it because it's the only BIG size fryer you can get for the $100 mark. The Philips equivalent is about $350, although it also has fancier controls, which you don't need. THE PROBLEMS: First of all, the burner is too small for the big size. It just doesn't generate enough heat. The fan seems to circulate air OK when checked, but the food still cooks unevenly -- as if the heat is absorbed by the food before it can make it around. Even set on the highest level, it takes 25 minutes to brown french fries from the freezer, and 18+ minutes if you first thaw them in the microwave, an UNDESIRED step that takes at least those same extra 7 minutes!!! ugh! And when you cook fries, you need to stop several times and flip them around to get them evenly browned. THIS IS THE ONE THING AN AIRFRYER IS SUPPOSED TO DO WELL -- cook around and through foods like this which have a lot of places for the hot air to go. Every airfryer commercial pushes the ease of making french fries. And on everything, it doesn't cook top and bottom evenly. Try fish fillets (breaded)... the tops brown decently, but they need to be flipped halfway through, at least, sometimes more often. And don't try stacking them, even with air spaces -- the top ones cook quickly and the bottom ones stay soggy unless you move them around during cooking. I finally figured out the only to cook breaded fish is to start with it frozen and prop it vertically... an interesting challenge... like building a house of cards. :-) And the bottom ones stick. And the fries, if started thawed, stick. And grilled cheese, FORGET ABOUT TRYING IT. Once you get cheese into the food tray it NEVER comes out. The food tray portion has an anodize on it that appears to be non-stick but EVERYTHING will stick to it. And the anodize rubs off when you try even slight scrubbing with soft sponge to get off the mess. It's horrible -- cleaning is almost impossible. As for the bottom collection tray, it does have a non-stick coating, but when food does stick to it (as food will, because it falls through) and you try to clean it off, the non-stick coating itself comes right up with the food.... even at light pressure! Yes, the non-stick coating isn't even properly sprayed on the bottom collection tray. The coating doesn't stick to the aluminum, but it does stick to your food! ugh! This thing is a mess. Giving it 2 stars was too generous, but I guess it does FINALLY make the fries more crispy than they would get in the oven -- but you need to babysit them and flip them around during cooking, so it is NOT convenient as advertised. Sure, you can play around with moving your food, and deal with it sticking to the tray, and having some of it dry out because the machine doesn't get hot enough... if you can deal with all that, then enjoy. I'm wondering if the whole airfryer concept is bad, or just this machine. It's JUNK. I'm going to try to get a warranty replacement, but what are the odds that ALL of these things are bad: - tray is NOT non-stick - (bottom) collection tray has coating that easily flakes off - machine does not get hot enough These all look like design flaws and manufacturing defects to me.

ASUS Z87-DELUXE, LGA 1150, Intel Motherboard

Works well, but UGLY as HECK. NOT Good for Display in Lighted Cases.
This is technically one the best Z87 chipset mainboard out there when you balance price and features and durability and stability. BUT, while it works well, it is UGLY as HECK. This is -not- a board you want to show off in your case. That gold was never a fashionable look for decking out a case, so while this board might get your Haswell Refresh "k" CPU clocking high and running with good stability, it's just such a CLUTTERED board... ugh! And whom exactly needs all those extra SATA ports? And why have a couple of hard-wired OC switches on the board? Over-Clocking is something to be done manually - or automatically by ASUS's version of an "OC Genie" but -not- with just some switch that takes up everything by X%. Too much clutter and really ugly color and functionable but also-ugly heat sinks... Yeah, this is a board you would HIDE. LOL.
