Finally a High Quality Expandable Hose - THANKS!
I was an ardent believer in heavy-duty black rubber hoses because they don't kink and last for years. Because of their durability, I've only had to purchase three of them in my life. However, now that I'm a little older, I was getting weary of lugging around that heavy hose. Also, over time, the black rubber begins to sluff off; getting black on my hands and clothes. So I recently purchased an inexpensive (around $20) expandable hose with plastic connectors. I absolutely loved the light weight and the cool factor of watching the hose fill and empty. However, as expected, the hose only lasted one season. The connectors were leaky and eventually the thin hose burst. Not wanting to go back to the rubber hose, I searched to find an expandable hose that would last. I purchased a WiseWorks hose earlier this year, but just now getting around to the review. I wanted some history with the hose before writing a review. Bottom line - this is a GREAT hose! The black outer part is some sort of heavy duty nylon that feels much more substantial than my first expandable hose. The brass couplings are great, but the cutoff valve on the end where the nozzle goes is just brilliant! This allows me to fill the hose before installing the nozzle. I can also replace the nozzle with he hose expanded. But best of all, I can empty the hose without making a mess. There is a giant rubber band running the length of the hose. I've never seen a hose with a rubber band in the middle. The band keeps the hose small when stored and, as a bonus, causes the hose to empty very rapidly. We look forward to opening the valve and watching the hose dance around while water is being emptied out. The nozzle is somewhat standard fair, but you know, it works great. I've purchased several expensive top-of-the-line nozzles in the past, but my wife absolutely loves the one that came with the hose. The box goes into great detail about something called TPU technology. They claim this is what keeps the hose durable and performing for many seasons.
