Nintendo-published action adventure with a heavy shooting slant, created for Japan's Famicom Disk System. Though it wasn't deemed a huge success in its homeland, Metroid and its sequels inspired millions of gamers in the west and east alike. As bounty hunter Samus Aran, players explore a planet that consists of interlinking tunnels and secret passages. Along the way, Samus picks up new gadgets that unlock new abilities and in turn open up new areas. The game was later released in cartridge format.
