Product Information
More graphically elaborate than the Atari VCS version and not quite as replay-worthy as the ColecoVision edition, Popeye for the Intellivision follows the plot of Nintendo's popular arcade game. The Intellivision version sports better graphics than its Atari VCS cousin, as well as a mixed bag of sounds. Nice, though off-key, signature tunes from the cartoon are offset by strangely loud sliding sounds anytime Popeye drops through a hole to the level below him. The game's speed is also an issue: it's so slow that Popeye can easily outrun any bottles thrown at him from the sides of the screen by the Sea Hag. Another comparison in which this version doesn't fare too well is control. With the Intellivision's disc controllers it's almost impossible to have absolute command over the legendary sailor man, particularly when Popeye has to scale a flight of stairs. While Popeye is an admirable effort from Parker Brothers, its controls ultimately prevent it from being "strong to the finich." <!--Book-->Product Identifiers
