By placing Donald Trump's presidential campaigns in the broader context of comparative democracies and American political history, Larry Gerston shows how they fit within larger processes that threaten the stability of democracy at home and abroad. Whatever happens in his trials, and regardless of whether he wins the Republican presidential nomination and is reelected president in 2024, Gerston makes the case that the American political system will be dealing with the consequences of Donald Trump for many years to come. -- Benjamin Highton, University of California, Davis, Gerston has produced a monumental work that considers Trump's blatant racism and authoritarian populism as imminent threats to democracy. This highly readable, carefully researched, and compelling work goes a long way in helping us to understand how Trumpism has taken hold and why it persists. It is a must-read for anyone who cares about the future of the American polity., "In Trumpism, Bigotry, and the Threat to American Democracy , Gerston examines the historical aspects of Trump's bigotry. According to Gerston, Trump's bigotry is a divide-and-conquer strategy directed at undermining the rule of law and establishing Trump as a dictatorial authority. Gerston describes in detail how Trump's hatred is destructive to the various social segments that make up American democracy. An important underlying point in Gerston's analysis is how Trump has been able to mobilize and direct a social segment that is willing to embrace his irrationality. The book concludes by evaluating the lingering threat of Trumpism to American democracy and how to safeguard the American experiment. A concise history of Trump and Trumpism. Highly recommended. All readership levels, but especially general readers." -- Choice Reviews "By placing Donald Trump's presidential campaigns in the broader context of comparative democracies and American political history, Larry Gerston shows how they fit within larger processes that threaten the stability of democracy at home and abroad. Gerston examines the near-lethal combination of American bigotry and the ability of Donald Trump to take advantage of this scourge to satisfy his own political objective. The result is an individual who won election to the American presidency by adroitly pitting members of American society against one another, while presenting himself as the only person in the position to save America from itself. Having succeeded to the nation's most important political office, Trump proceeded to use the position for his own benefit, irrespective of laws, norms, and, most important, the Constitution. So powerful was Trump that he and his minions came close to overturning the 2020 presidential election with the January 6, 2021 insurrection against the nation's Capitol. The listing was for a hardcover version of this book; however, I received a paperback. The Seller replied quickly to my question about this issue and issued a full refund - and let me keep the book. So, a diligent Seller for sure - and well packaged and reasonable timing on shipping. Thank you for the refund, and as you suggested, I'll likely donate this volume and seek the hardcover.

Great transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe

Excellent purchase. Was able to get all three items from the one seller. Seller was able to bundle all three items together into one package. Items as described and arrived in perfect condition. Good communication around shipping and tracking as items delayed and not able to be delivered by original estimate. Thanks to shipping updates I was able to track the items arriving before the extended delivery time. Thank you for making these items available on EBay.
