This visual survey looks back at the development of the movie poster in relation to the evolution of film from the perspective of a design specialist. It includes posters from countries as diverse as Poland, Italy, the UK, Cuba and the USA dating back to the 1900s. The book is structured chronologically with chapters covering four eras with spreads on individual designers, directors, movies and genres. It includes influential designers such as Saul Bass and Bob Peak, and key directors who had a strong influence on the design of their movie's posters such as Alfred Hitchcock and Spike Lee. It also features various posters designed for films from Citizen Kane to 2001: A Space Odyssey . Over 300 popular and little-known movie posters are reproduced in colour.
