Synopsis
Billy Wilder's classic screwball comedy Some Like it Hot (1959), starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe, tells the story of two struggling Jazz musicians who accidentally witness a mob massacre in Chicago who then, disguised as women, join a female band to escape the gangsters' pursuit. Despite the film's popular reception, with Academy Award nominations for Wilder and star Jack Lemmon, the film gained notoriety for its crossdressing plot and gender-bending comedy. Steven Cohan's study of the film disentangles its production history and subsequent notoriety from the film itself, reconsidering the ways in which it playfully challenged generic and gender conventions of the 1950s. He provides an in depth analysis of the film's near perfect comedic structure, Wilder's aesthetic choices and self-reflexive star performances by Curtis, Lemmon and Monroe. He goes on to consider the film's queerness, as well as its promotion and reception in 1959. Contextualizing the film within its contemporary moment, he argues its textual richness, one that allows it to be viewed differently across generations, securing its lasting influence in popular culture., Billy Wilder's classic screwball comedy Some Like it Hot (1959) tells the story of two struggling Jazz musicians who accidentally witness a mob massacre in Chicago and, disguised as women, join a female band to escape the gangsters' pursuit. A critical and popular success on its release, with Academy Award nominations for Wilder and star Jack Lemmon, the film is perhaps best remembered for its frantic gender-bending comedy and for its closing line, one of the most famous in movie history. Steven Cohan's insightful study traces Some Like It Hot's production history and provides an in-depth analysis of the film's near-perfect comedic structure. Wilder's aesthetic choice and self-reflexive star performances by Toney Curtis. Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Considering the film's queerness and its playful challenge to contemporary codes around sexuality and gender, in its marketing as well as in the fabric of the film itself, Cohan argues that Some Like It Hot's textual richness allows it to be viewed differently across generations, securing its lasting influence in popular culture.

- m***4 (1613)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatoLeaving positive feedback because 1) item was packed well & arrived as described 2) seller did give partial refund when subsequent price dropped below org purchase price. 3) communication was quick However, there was a downside to this transaction -item listed as in-stock but ended up waiting nearly a month for them to get it from their distributer then ship it to me (bought June 29th, arrived around July 21). Auction said 12-15 days. Better clarity would have prevented lot of frustrationStreet Fighter II - Guile (Player 2) Figure - 6 Inch (N° 365698737394)
