Depp is mostly great here, too, playing for laughs, which he easily gets, but also hinting more than previously at a sinister, less whimsical side to Jack, Hollywood Reporter - Captain Jack Sparrow is back in excellent form for his fourth adventure in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, which is more serious in the hands of a new director, Rob Marshall, and thanks to Penelope Cruz it's also a good deal sexier., Empire - [PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN û AT WORD'S END]...it looks fantastic and makes some bold choices in its execution. And once again JackÆs back to save the day., Rolling Stone - [PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN û CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL] ...Depp swans through this swashbuckler with a scene-stealing gusto unseen since Marlon Brando in MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY...
