Waldo Japussy rocketed to feline fame with the publication in 1990 of The Tao of Meow, which has sold over 50,000 copies and is still expanding its audience. Waldo shed his mortal coils in 1996, but has continued to pursue his literary career posthumorously. His latest effort is a series of quatrains about a ruby cat which may be reminiscent of a more famous work by Omar Khayyam. Nevertheless, there is conclusive proof that Waldo never even owned a copy of the Rubaiyat, let alone read it; and it should be fairly clear that Omar did not read Waldo. In The Ruby Cat, Waldo continues to expound upon the divine mission of all cats -- namely, to find a perfect human lap and spend as much time in it as possible.
