Reviews
[An] assured debut. . . . Horlock has created an authentic voice and not only illuminated the history of a small island but also thrown light on the subjectivity of history, truth and memory., "The joy of this ingenious debut is that, somehow, it manages to link twin stories convincingly to create an impressive fable about the relativity of truth and the deceits that make living on a small island possible. Highly recommended." -- Financial Times "Moving, engaging and complex . . . Horlock's authorial debut is impressive." -- the Scotsman "[An] assured debut. . . . Horlock has created an authentic voice and not only illuminated the history of a small island but also thrown light on the subjectivity of history, truth and memory." -- The Independent, The joy of this ingenious debut is that, somehow, it manages to link twin stories convincingly to create an impressive fable about the relativity of truth and the deceits that make living on a small island possible. Highly recommended.

Synopsis
On the English Channel island of Guernsey, a teenage girl's Mean Girls-like experience pushes her to murder her best friend in a scandal, she will discover, that mirrors her uncle's previously unknown story from the days of the island's Nazi occupation during WWII. Told through the voices of fifteen-year-old Cat Rozier and her long-dead Uncle Charlie--known to Cat only by the audio recordings he left behind--The Book of Lies lucidly illuminates the interior lives of a scorned modern girl with attitude and a defiant, faded man. With echoes of Nicole Krauss's The History of Love and Jennifer McMahon's Promise Not to Tell, Mary Horlock's stunning debut novel is an unforgettable exploration of aspiration, anguish, and rebellion., On the English Channel island of Guernsey, a teenage girl's Mean Girls-like experience pushes her to murder her best friend in a scandal, she will discover, that mirrors her uncle's previously unknown story from the days of the island's Nazi occupation during WWII. - r***r (2959)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatoBook arrived today, 2 days before deadline given by the seller. Well-packaged & in good condition. Price was very competitive, & the book was accurately listed. Great communication. I appreciate the seller getting back to me when I was having trouble tracking the book's delivery progress. Apparently there were 2 different tracking numbers - one in Canada & the other in the U.S., since it was initially shipped from Canada. Thank you very much for your quick response & helpful information.Rethinking Investing: A Very Short Guide to Very Long-Term Investing by Charles (N° 396183075510)
- e***_ (13)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatoSeller handles a massive inventory so I give them grace on the slow processing and shipping. They were very communicative and prompt with their response when I messaged in asking about it. Book was in good condition as described. Small ding on the page edges which wasn't mentioned, but that's fairly common even at your typical book store. Still a good value and I'd buy from them again.
- 0***i (5)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoThe first item arrived with some damage to the inside back cover, but the seller responded immediately, assuring me they’d provide a replacement, and even told me I could keep the original. They were upfront about a short delay, and gave a clear estimated ship date, and followed up right on time once it shipped. The replacement arrived in perfect condition and exactly as described. I really appreciated their transparency and professionalism. Would definitely buy from them again!
