-Anna's Prayer is a very simple story, perfect for beginning readers. Most children will listen a few times, then be able to read it on their own. There's a short lesson up front -- be nice to people even when they do things you don't like--which isn't hidden, but the authors don't make a point of it, they let you discover it on your own. The major message--pray and trust God--is clear and obvious. Much more could be said, but the authors are out to say just enough. It's a pretty safe bet that you're youngsters will be asking for this over and over again.- - Phoenix Roberts -Beautiful story of faith. ... It's a sweet story with gorgeous illustrations. The message of faith is a beautiful reminder that we always have somewhere to turn. I also like the lesson that prayers are often answered through other people. Great for teaching children not only lessons in faith, but also gets you thinking about family history and what stories might be in your own family.- - Amber Ashton What a beautiful book! The story is wonderful and the illustrations are stunning ... this story made me want to learn more about my first ancestors who immigrated to America. Anna's Prayer would make a great gift for any child--or adult, for that matter. - L. Prince -What a wonderful book! We all have trials and tribulations. This book is a beautiful expression of one person's trials and how she uses her faith to persevere. This book is wonderfully written and illustrated and will touch the heart of all who read it.- - Diane Sebra -I was privileged to film my family in pursuit of our ancestors and their life experiences while making episode 5 of the national PBS series Ancestors. ... Karl Beckstrand is tapping into the most powerful interest on the planet--the hunger to know who we are and where we come from! ... The greatest story ... for young and old alike. - Jeff Gallup -It's a sweet and delightful read that teaches three powerful lessons: courage, family, and faith. The story is vividly descriptive. It takes you there. Highly recommended.- - Ana R. Serrano Such a touching story with a message every child and adult needs to remember: that Heavenly Father knows them and watches over them. I can't get through this story without shedding tears. It so powerfully reminds me ... that God answers prayers. I think every household should have this book. Children need to know and love this story. - Customer When I first heard ... this story ... I felt so warm and happy inside that I couldn't contain my tears ... I ... read it to my daughter over and over again; she still loves to read about Anna ... The story ... is ... about the power of prayer and how important it is to listen to the still small voice that guides you ... I absolutely recommend this book to anyone. - V. Abernathy I bought [Anna's Prayer] to read to my grandchildren. Within the first few pages we were drawn into Anna's ... plight and ... the miracle that followed! This book is a timeless, invaluable gift of faith. - Patricia Potts, author of My Journey from Darkness to Light -My ... nine-year-old granddaughter Violet loved [Anna], as did I ... This is a true story and the illustrations are exquisitely done ... I highly recommend this book for everyone who enjoys stories about their ancestors. - Forever Friends Rating 5 Stars by Teri Rodman -A sweet story about trust in a Father who cares for us wherever we are, and an eye-opening peek into the difficulties our ancestors faced in coming [to America], in a context perfect for children to understand.- - Rachel Ramey, Titus2homemaker.com, "Anna's Prayer is a very simple story, perfect for beginning readers. Synopsis
(Nondenominational) "Tapping into the most powerful interest on the planet--the hunger to know who we are and where we come from.... Greatest story...for young and old." - Jeff Gallup, TV producer Discover the 1880s tale of Anna Anderson, a child living in Sweden with her mother and her sister, Ida. The happy family doesn't have much. Unable to afford passage herself, Anna's mother puts the girls on a boat to the United States, hoping they will have a better life without her. Because Ida has contracted work in Idaho, the sisters separate in America and young Anna continues by train to another state where an aunt is supposed to meet her. Little Anna arrives alone in an unfamiliar near-empty train station late at night--but her aunt is not there--she never got the letter telling of Anna's arrival. Unable to ask for help in English, Anna prays that her Heavenly Father will send someone to help her--someone who speaks Swedish. The answer to Anna's prayer goes beyond what she would have imagined. This children's biography touches on a universal hunger--the yearning for a family and a place to call home. #3 in the Young American Immigrants series (nonfiction standalones).
