When mating to a PL-259 you will need gas pliers or channel-locks gripping the PL-259 because the center tube in these sockets is very tight. In the original amphenol connector the center conductor was made of beryllium copper, usually silver plated. The beryllium was considerably thinner walled. It was simply a better fit for the PL-259. These connectors will work if you are comfortable with plier assist!
