Despite the harsh chill of a New England winter, several towns in Massachusetts in early 1775 burned with a revolutionary fervor. With the springtime thaw came the specter of impending war, engulfing every Massachusetts citizen from Menotomy and Lexington to Lincoln and Concord. Historian D. Michael Ryan illuminates the daily deeds, trials and emotions of uprising experienced by Patriots and Loyalists, women and men, people of color and children during the first days of the Revolutionary War.
