Se conoce como "catecismo de Ripalda", al Catecismo y exposicin breve de la doctrina cristiana, escrito por Jernimo Martnez de Ripalda con el objetivo de poner al alcance de los nios las bases de la doctrina Cristiana.Si tuviesen que jerarquizarse en orden de importancia los libros de texto utilizados en la historia de la educacin en Mxico, el catecismo del padre Ripalda tendra que ocupar el primer lugar. Este texto fue utilizado no slo para la enseanza de la doctrina cristiana, sino tambin del espaol, el civismo y la lectura. Se hicieron traducciones cuando menos en nhuatl, otom, tarasco, zapoteca y maya. * Instruir a travs de un sistema de preguntas y respuestas.* Su presentacin en forma de dilogo entre el maestro y el alumno facilitaba la enseanza y el aprendizaje.
