SynopsisFalsely attributed to Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, this splendid setting of the Magnificat text is actually by Pergolesi's teacher Francesco Durante. Originally in a five-part setting, the composer likely produced the four-part revision offered here. This new vocal score is a digitally enhanced reissue of the one prepared by American musicologist Clayton Westermann in 1968. Now in a convenient size designed to fit into choral folders, measure numbers and an updated preface., This work was thought to have been composed by Pergolesi until the discovery of the original Durante manuscript in Naples library in 1982. Pergolesi was a student of Durante who simply made his own copy of the work in manuscript, a common practice at the time. Westermann's authoritative 1968 edition has been updated with measure numbers and produced in a larger, easier-to-read size., Falsely attributed to Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, this splendid setting of the Magnificat text is actually by Pergolesi's teacher Francesco Durante.
