Synopsis
The terrorist of John Updike's title is eighteen-year-old Ahmad Ashmawy Mulloy, the son of an Irish American mother and an Egyptian father who disappeared when he was three. Devoted to Allah and to the Qur'an as expounded by the imam of his neighborhood mosque, Ahmad feels his faith threatened by the materialistic, hedonistic society he sees around him in the slumping New Jersey factory town of New Prospect. Neither Jack Levy, his life-weary guidance counselor at Central High, nor Joryleen Grant, his seductive black classmate, succeeds in diverting Ahmad from what the Qur'an calls the Straight Path. Now driving a truck for a local Lebanese furniture store--a job arranged through his imam--Ahmad thinks he has discovered God's purpose for him. But to quote the Qur'an: Of those who plot, God is the best., From one of the most gifted American writers of the twentieth century--and the author of the acclaimed Rabbit series: "A chilling tale that is perhaps the most essential novel to emerge from September 11" ( People ) about an eighteen-year-old devoted to Allah, who's convinced he's discovered God's purpose for him. "The most satisfactory elements in Terrorist are those that remind us that no amount of special pleading can set us free of history, no matter how oblivious and unresponsive to it we may be."-- The New York Times Book Review The terrorist of John Updike's title is eighteen-year-old Ahmad Ashmawy Mulloy, the son of an Irish American mother and an Egyptian father who disappeared when he was three. - k***s (15)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatothe shipping was so unbelievably fast, I didn’t even have time to check the tracking before it was already at my door. Tails was very nice and secure in his packaging, he made it home safely. Tails is also in pristine condition, the only thing indicating he’s used is the lack of a tag, so 100% as described. + I got him for cheaper than I would’ve at my local walgreens, even with the shipping cost, so 100% worth it. Tails is happy in his new home with Sonic and Amy ^^ thank you!!Sonic The Hedgehog Classic Tails Small Plush 8in (N° 326443693086)
- r***c (347)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoMy purchase arrived promptly in pristine condition! This 1942 yearbook is 83 years old! It looks brand new! Packaged extremely well!! It is exactly as described online. I really appreciate that the price was extremely affordable vs what I see similar yearbooks' "selling price." The seller was very personable and informative! A+++!
- z***r (1249)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoGreat seller, exactly as pictured/described. quick shipping, well packaged. However, shipping label has different name so it makes it hard to match it up with the order/seller name. The book itself arrived EXACTLY as in the picture, so all is well.
