Synopsis
An intimate peek inside French homes and lives, a collection of traditional French recipes ( cuisine pauvre or "peasant foods"), and a compendium of culinary cultural traditions-sprinkled with historical anecdotes and spiced with humor and deliciously candid memories-this culinary food and travel memoir reveals French families at their best and at their own dinner tables., Part culinary memoir and part travelogue, Carole Bumpus gathered this compilation of intimate interviews, conversations, stories, and traditional family recipes (cuisine pauvre) in the kitchens of French families as she traveled throughout the countryside. Travel with her through Champagne caves/wineries and historic cathedrals, local farmers' markets, ancient potters' guilds, and restaurant kitchens with wood-fire ovens. Learn how to make homemade Spinach-stuffed Tortellini with Bolognaise Sauce from the Champagne region, Cr pes and Watercress-stuffed Ravioli from the Lorraine, and Baekeofe and Kugelhopf from the Alsace. "Go blind" from the family stock of Eau de Vie liqueur and be treated to tales of foraging for snails for the infamous and now extinct Escargots Festival. And, on a somber note, listen to accounts of families forced from their communities during the German occupation of WWII in the Alsace and Lorraine, only to continue to struggle for survival after finally making their way home. This book is a compilation of stories about making ends meet; about people being grateful for all they had, even when they had almost nothing; about the sharing of family jokes and laughter; and about family trials and triumphs. This book is about people savoring the life they have been given., An intimate peek inside French homes and lives, a collection of traditional French recipes (cuisine pauvre or "peasant foods"), and a compendium of culinary cultural traditions--sprinkled with historical anecdotes and spiced with humor and deliciously candid memories--this culinary food and travel memoir reveals French families at their best and at their own dinner tables., Part culinary memoir and part travelogue, Carole Bumpus gathered this compilation of intimate interviews, conversations, stories, and traditional family recipes (cuisine pauvre) in the kitchens of French families as she traveled throughout the countryside. Fast shipping, item as described, however the packaging was not suitable for mailing a CD. It was luck that the CD was not damaged in transit. There was nothing to protect the CD from being crushed or bent in the mail, all it had was a thin plastic bag. I was considering giving the seller a neutral rating for the way he packed the item, but decided not to, because I didn't wanted to lower the seller's rating , and other than the packaging I have no other complaints with this order.

Unfortunately for both of us the item was lost in transit. But seller provided excellent service and was very responsive. Issued a full refund right away when I brought the issue to his attention. The USPS is at fault here as they failed to track the item once in their possession. NOT THE SELLER'S FAULT. Seller was A+ throughout the transaction and had great prices. I highly recommend.

Shipping was quick however the listing stated the book was "brand new" what I received the cover had scuff marks and scratches, and the poster was already removed. Communication was great and received a full refund. The book is still in fair enough condition, just wished it was represented a bit more accurately.
