This is presumably because they weren't needed for reliable Yamaha motors. "New in box," however, doesn't mean the box wasn't opened and then completely and somewhat loosely re-packaged, but the unit I got is clearly new. Save your old mounting hardware, nameplates etc. as this is a truly bare-bones motor! There are only two wire harnesses so it's easy-peasy plag-n-play
