Synopsis
Hattie Mae Bramble's school is holding its Halloween costume contest. Her principal encourages everyone to "be original," and Hattie accepts the challenge. So what could go wrong? Follow this self-assured farm girl as she shares her country perspective. Some folks want to trample Hattie's creativity. Will she let them? (Middle grade chapter book), The Book. Come along as Hattie faces a tough and confusing decision. It all begins as Hattie's fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Brimwood, announces the grade school costume contest in Hattie's classroom... Hattie Mae's Halloween is a short, illustrated chapter book (74 pages) for middle grade readers, and especially those moving from picture books into chapter books. The black and white paperback, illustrated by Joseph Mugisha, debuted to strong ratings on www.GoodReads.com. Learn more about first-time author Claudine C. Wargel at www.claudinecwargel.com, or follow her on facebook at www.facebook.com/HattieMaesHalloween/. The Author. Claudine C. Wargel cherishes the childhood she spent among the vegetable gardens, cropland and animals on her family's Midwestern farm. Today, those experiences inform her storytelling, to the delight of young children. Through her writing, Ms. Wargel hopes to transport young minds to a different place, where they, too, can sample the joys of farm life in the Heartland. What Moms Say About Hattie Mae's Halloween. "The main character is reminiscent of Junie B. Jones (Barbara Park & Denise Brunkus) or Ramona (Beverly Cleary). I hope to read more of Hattie Mae's adventures in the future!" - Jeanette F. "Love this book! Hattie Mae is a strong, confident girl and the story is sure to create meaningful dialog between children and adults as they share this great little book." - Amy O. "This fun story reminds me of living on a farm as a kid. A wonderful tale for a self-assured little girl or boy." - Chrissy W., Hattie Mae Bramble's grade school is holding its annual costume contest. Her principal encourages everyone to "be original," and fifth grader Hattie accepts that challenge. Steeped in a Midwestern farm life before computers and cell phones, her days are filled with caring for pigs, 4-H club meetings, church group, and dreams of becoming a veterinarian. These experiences shape the creation of Hattie's costume--designed with help from her mother. But when the time comes to dress up at school, not everyone welcomes her perspective. In fact, some folks want to trample Hattie's creativity. Young readers will giggle and root for this self-assured redhead as she struggles with the tough and confusing decision that follows. When all is said and done, Hattie shows children how to stand up for their ideas and values with maturity and grace. For readers ages 8 to 10, or read aloud to children aged 5+.

Thanks so much! Another great item from one of my favorite sellers. Item just as described and arrived in perfect condition. US Games decks always packaged in nice and attractive sturdy boxes, not flimsy throw aways. Thanks so much WOB for offering gently used books, decks, etc., at such a great value. To find gently used items looking for a new home is one of my ways, not only to save money, but to recycle. Appreciate this seller very much :)

Found this out-of-print, hard-to-find, collectable book for a very fair price from seller. It was almost immediately shipped after purchase and expeditiously arrived via USPS. The packaging was adequate, in a waterproof sleeve envelope, though there was no secondary padding or sealed waterproof covering to prevent moisture, dirt, or damage in case the outer packaging was compromised in transport. The book itself arrived in the condition it was described, if not better, with dust jacket intact.
