A dramatization of the unique relationship shared by former president Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Elanor, THE EARLY YEARS is a TV miniseries that was shot in 1976. Their life together was tumultuous even by presidential standards, with Franklin embarking on an affair with Elanor's personal secretary, and Elanor taking on a very public role in place of her ailing husband when he contacted polio. Edward Herrmann and Jane Alexander give fine performances as the couple, and the show won an Emmy for Outstanding Special-Drama.
