Reviews
'I loved it. [Bulkin] sets out so clearly the actual way that science develops by placing it in this personal context.' Prof Sir David King - former UK Government Chief Scientific Advisor, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at Cambridge 'A real page turner! Love the story. There are so many very good lessons for youngsters (and oldsters!) that can be taken from [Bulkin's] experiences. I applaud [him] for presenting [his] story so well.' Prof Harry B. Gray - A. O. Beckman Professor of Chemistry, California Institute of Technology 'Solving Chemistry is an enthralling account of the interplay between applied and basic chemistry over fifty years. [...] This is an inspiring story and invaluable guide to building a career in science aimed at embracing new directions and opportunities and possibly changing the world.' Prof James Utterback, MIT 'Too few memoirs from scientists even try to blend personal experience with history of science. Bulkin combines both ingredients artfully. The personal is communicated with disarming honesty and charm; I often found myself smiling from ear to ear. The historical account is deeply original and provocative. Among its readers will be students of all ages seeking guidance about their careers, because it carries the message that the life of the scientist can be exceptionally fulfilling, can take many turns, and is always a work in progress.' Prof Robert Socolow, Princeton University
Synopsis
An engaging personal account of what happened in the field of chemistry in the period from 1950-2000., Chemistry as a discipline is arguably now complete - all the major problems have been solved and there are no more great discoveries to be made. In his engaging new book, Bernie Bulkin explores the research that led to the solution of all the major problems of the discipline that existed in the early 1950s. He discusses the progress of both theory and experiment, and shows, by some anecdotal data, how chemistry has shifted from solving its own fundamental problems to making major contributions across a range of other disciplines - biology, medicine, materials science, environmental issues. The book also includes many insights into how to have a successful scientific career.

- e***j (21)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoThe item is in excellent condition. I bought it at a good value. The appearance is what as described exceptit only runs on windows7 and 8 but not 10 whichit was unfortunate. I ended up gotten a refund but i wasnt sure if the seller wants the item back. However, the packaging was perfectly packed and it was a smooth transaction and was delivered on time!
- 9***9 (564)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoThe shipping was fast with quality packing and the item looks even better in real life than in the descriptive picture! The medal is in perfect condition and the high quality is quite apparent. Personally, I love medals that have glittery touches and spinners. The price was also good. I’m delighted with my purchase and appreciate dealing with sellers who obviously care for their product offerings as well as their customers.
