"This is the first extended study I know of what the author calls a 'Holocaust performative'. . . .[The author] asks what a 'holocaust performative' might look like and how such a study might illuminate 'events of this particular genocide that are unrepresentable and outside the parameters of representation itself' . . . .[Patraka] contributes an important and possibly contentious dimension to Holocaust studies." -- James Young

Synopsis
"This is the first extended study I know of what the author calls a "Holocaust performative," . . . .[The author] asks what a "holocaust performative" might look like and how such a study might illuminate "events of this particular genocide that are unrepresentable and outside the parameters of representation itself" . . . .[Patraka] contributes an important and possibly contentious dimension to Holocaust studies." --James Young "Theater, always a medium of fragile bodies and intractable ideologies, meets its biggest challenge in the Holocaust. How represent the unrepresentable? Vivian Patraka brings postmodern paradoxes into the heart of Holocaust meanings. A superb critic of drama, Patraka analyzes a wide range of recent plays, helping us to decode fascism's insidious mutations even in the most earnest theatrical exposes. Richly researched, feelingly written Spectacular Suffering: Theatre, Fascism, and the Holocaust brings performance theory, feminism, history, and Jewish cultural studies into unique dialogue. There is material here to fill several course syllabi. A wonderful and important book."--Elin Diamond, Rutgers University Spectacular Suffering: Theatre, Fascism and the Holocaust considers how we remember historical instances of suffering and atrocity, framing its central questions to reflect larger cultural shifts in how we position ourselves in relation to history, performance, and memory., "This is the first extended study I know of what the author calls a "Holocaust performative,".... - 4***7 (224)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificato1st edition, 2nd impression edition of "The Drunken Forest," by Gerald Durrell is as pictured & described. Arrived quickly & safely! Got a great deal on it! Great communication! The book, with a protective mylar cover, was wrapped in bubble wrap, then wrapped in sturdy cardboard, then placed in a rugged bubble mailer! Fort Knox in a mailer! So hard to get an early edition of this classic! So happy to add to my growing collection of nature & science books! Thank you! !!Seller Highly Recommended!!
- 7***0 (444)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoBook was well protected, shipped via book class, eventually arrived. In condition as described by seller, unfortunately there was a binding error during printing that was missed (15 pages were replaced with a duplicate 15 pages from another section) when informed vender checked inventory, no other identical books so they offered an alternate rare antique book but the book I was interested in at half the price was common so the seller refunded me the purchase price instead. Great seller.
